Throughout the ages, particular gemstones have been associated with each of the zodiac signs. But it wasn’t until a 1912 meeting of the American National Association of Jewelers that a formal list was drawn up, designating the stones we should each desire to commemorate our birth months. The designations weren’t, however, mystical in origin. Like most trade association lists, this list was created to promote the sales of stones jewelers most wanted to sell. Interestingly, the list has held up to this day. In the future, the list may expand to include tanzanite, a popular gemstone that was only discovered in 1967. Below is the list as it still stands.
